In January, Max Weiland competed in the SKUSA Winter Series races held at AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex. He raced both his Checkered Motorsports Magik Kart USA KA 100 Jr and X30 Jr throughout the weekend in South Florida.
With double duty each day, it was a test of stamina, strength and speed–and Max was up for the challenge.
The SuperKarts! international event featured 64 drivers in KA Jr and 31 competitors in the X30 Jr class. In Jr–where the 64 karts are narrowed to 44 for the final–Max finished P5 in a split field PreFinal.
His prefinal time slotted Max P10 for the Final. We finished P8 on track before a bumper penalty knocked us back to P10.
In X30 Jr, Max qualified P15 out of 31 drivers. An epic run on slick tires in damp conditions saw him rocket through the crowd from P15 to P4.
During the Final–with heavy rain–Max started P6. But while making a move for P4, we hit a giant puddle that unfortunately threw the kart right and into the wall.
Max responded well to the adversity. After spinning through the wet conditions, he found himself in last for the restart–P31. But he didn’t quit racing. Max put forth his best effort and still managed to pass 10 karts after the restart to finish P21.
Overall, it was a great weekend of racing for Max and his team. We had some enjoyable moments and some challenging moments. But we kept racing and doing our best throughout the trip which is always our goal.
Thanks to Checkered Motorsports and the Magik Kart USA team for their support during an exciting weekend of SuperKarts! action.
